What is The Discount Room?

The Discount Room is an interactive portal that links you, the shopper, directly with small businesses and their specials. It delivers you tailored discount information according to what you are actually looking for. It allows you to create and manage a personal watchlist (comprising categories, keywords, locations and favourite businesses) and you are alerted weekly with discount, special or voucher matches.  

What else, is The Discount Room?

The Discount Room is also a central discounts hub where you can upload discounts (called Member Finds) to share with everyone else.  These can be from stores, from brochures & catalogues or online offers, and can be shared directly onto the site, or while on the go using Twitter.

How does it work?

Businesses upload their specials and offers onto their micro-sites within The Discount Room.  The listed discounts reflect what those businesses are doing in the real world, or vouchers which are available only to Discount Room members. 

Once becoming a Discount Room member, you are given your own Member Page where you can set up your profile and create a private watchlist.  Based on your profile information provided, including postcode details, the Discount Room delivers discounts based on your watchlist, local promotions, Mega Discounts and vouchers.  Each week the system considers what you are looking for and delivers you the corresponding discounts via an email alert. The email alert showcases results from each category and links you back to your Member Page wherein all items can be found including images, pricing, item and business details.

The Discount Room ensures you only get worthwhile discount notifications:  there is a minimum of +15% off for listed items valued up to $700, +10% off and more for items up to $1700, and +5% off for listed items over $1700. This is not like the red supermarket price tag which shows 5 cents off.

What does The Discount Room represent?

The Discount Room represents the consumer who is interested in buying smart, being in control of the information they receive, and who wants to support small and medium business.

The Discount Room presents unique, individual and vibrant small businesses of all kinds for your discovery and perusal, and introduces the people behind them, as well as what they have to offer.

The Discount Room also represents the 'wiki' idea - that information centralised and shared, by people for people, quickly establishes a big repository of data that benefits everyone.  The Discount Room is a hub for specials and so we encourage all our members to participate in the discount-sharing process.

OK, I have joined as a member, what's next?

Welcome, you are now part of the family! The first thing to do is to complete your profile, upload your member photo, and share a little something about yourself - it helps make the whole experience more fun.  The next step is to set up your Watchlist according to what discount information you want to receive. You can be as broad or as selective as you like and you can change and edit your Watchlist and its parameters at any time.  If you are already a customer of one or more of the listed businesses, please choose them as a 'favourite' so you can receive all their special offers by default. You should be able to do all this very quickly. After that, you can freely explore all the items currently active, and the businesses behind them.

What are those badges some members have against their name?

Members can be assigned a 'Discount Scout' badge or a 'Circle of Trust' badge .

The 'Discount Scout' badge is awarded to those members who are actively uploading and regularly sharing discount finds.

The 'Circle of Trust' badge identifies those members whose contributions in reviews and discussions on the site is positive, constructive and insightful.

Badging decisions are made by Admins directly from the Engine Room and their decisions are final.
